Short answer – I’m a problem solver. I have a technical background in database admin and programming. This has evolved into helping businesses to improve their database usage through training and general data management consultancy.
Training
The training varies from introductory SQL courses for business users through to database management and performance tuning for programmers and administrators. The focus is on problem solving, case study discussion and real life experience. I have taught the Oracle curriculum for Learning Tree International for many years, including to remote students. I am a member of the Learning and Performance Institute (previously IITT) including their online facilitation certification (COLF).
Data Management
The data management side of the business focuses on dealing with problems of database growth. Designs that worked for smaller volumes may not scale. Solutions can mean more careful methods of storage, improved design of archive/purging systems or simply better SQL usage.
Communication
Communication skills are just as important as technical skills, even more so as the world moves to outsourcing. I pride myself that many managers have thanked me for dealing with and communication technical issues in terms of their direct impact on a business.
